Cs?rsz Khell

Csörsz Khell was born in Budapest. In 1977 he graduated from the Budapest Polytechnical University with the degree in Civil Engineering, in 1982 he graduated from the Institute of Industrial Design as a graphic artist. In the beginning of 1980s he was invited to serve as an artistic director in the Canton Theater in Budapest. His work was distinguished during the legendary tour from Chicago to Hong Kong. This theater tour opened a possibility for the artist to work in Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Berlin, Cameri (Israel), Oslo, Toronto, Turku, Tampere, Lisbon etc.

In the beginning of 1990s Csörsz turned to the musical theater. He created beautiful set design for the opera theaters. Now he successfully works in the Operetta and Musical Theater in Budapest together with the great Miklos Gabor Kerenyi and a young director Mate Sabot.

The artist also designs posters, programs and booklets – his works have been on display during numerous exhibitions. Csorsz is also a successful architect. He is the author of the project for the Cultural Center in Stuttgart, the inner portals of the Orken Theater in Romania were rebuilt according to his drawings. As an architect Csorsz takes care of reconstruction of historical buildings in Budapest. Faust Wine Cellar, “Grif” hotel and “Zila” cafй have been reconstructed after his drawings.

The artist’s name is very well-known – he is constantly participating in professional competitions in Hungary and abroad. In 2003 he received Mari Jasai Award (the highest Hungarian National Theater Award) named after a famous Hungarian actress. In 2013 he was awarded the title of “The best set designer of the year”, he was twice awarded at the International Theater Exhibition “The New World Triennial” etc.
