Born in Hungary. He applied ballet department of Artistic school in Pécs. Since 18 years old he started to perform as a dancer in performances in theatres of Europe and Japan.
As a dancer he participated in the original Broadway performances: «Fosse the show» (Japan, Europe), "Chicago" (Amsterdam), «Cats» (Stuttgart), «Footloose» (Vienna), "Elizabeth" (Vienna), "Tanz der Vampire" (Vienna, Budapest, Stuttgart, Berlin).
Was a member of the ballet troupe of the Vienna Folk Opera. Collaborated a lot with the Stage Entertainment company.
In 2005, as a choreographer for the first time participated in the production of the play "The Beautiful Game", where he worked with Andrew Lloyd-Webber. And since then he is regularly invited as a choreographer for the productions of musicals in Budapest: “The Producers”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “The Threepenny Opera”, “Monty Python's Spamalot”, “Spring Awakening”, “Rebecca”, “Mary Poppins” (Disney), “The Gost”, “Mamma mia!” and others.
Ákos Tihanyi cooperates with the Hungarian TV channel RTL. As a choreographer, he worked in the programs «X-factor», «Hungary's Got Talent". As one of the jury members participated in the show "Dancing with the Stars".
